Blue Ribbon's heavenly green tea creme brulee

Category: Dining

Blue Ribbon Sushi...it is a sister restaurant to the great Blue Ribbon Brasserie, Downing St. Bar, Blue Ribbon Bakery and other successful establishments.

On a sunny Thursday afternoon, I dove into Blue Robbon Sushi on Thompson Street. It is a small space that serves Japanese traditional dishes and fresh sushi and sashimi to New Yorkers and tourists.

The place was packed, but we managed to get the last table for two. Great vibe, inviting staff and atmosphere invites you to relax, sit back and enjoy your meal.

The long list of choices makes it hard to decide what to chose, especially at lunch time when I had to pace myself, as I had a dinner to make for friends and family.

We started with shrimp dumplings, a very thin rice pastry filled with cooked shrimp. It is a very light dish, and very flavourful. We shared a spicy tuna roll and a special vegetarian roll...the vegetarian roll is especially worth mentioning...it was filled with fresh asparagus, cucumber, and avocado. Refreshing and yet filling. For our main course, we decided to go with a bowl of sushi rice topped with broiled eel. It is a great dish, very rich, smoky and it is big enough to satisfy the hunger of two.

At Blue Ribbon Sushi everything is fresh, delicious and tasty, and there is one thing to add to complete the experience. The famous and heavenly green tea creme brulee - it has haunted me for days after my meal. It is franco-asian fusion - green tea meets creme brulee, and they match so well that the creamy finish with green tea aromas lingers for minutes in your mouth and the memories linger for hours.

My lunch was perfect at this a perfect place to have an excuse to overeat...and cut your dinner in half.
