Magical Powder
Colorado is definitely the place to ski, where everyone is able to find their perfect slope. I started skiing later in my life. I waterskied and did cross country skiing, but I never had the opportunity to alpine ski when living in Poland. There were two major reasons - first, it was considered an elite recreational sport and was an expensive sport that the average Polish person could not afford, and second, it wasn't as popular as it has become in recent years, and so had limited awareness among poles.
I have now skied three seasons in Colorado and I love it...skiing became my obsession, and if I could, I would ski much more often but unfortunately it is impossible at this point in my life...limited amount of time between demanding role of a mother, work and a good wife and friend...so many roles and just one life haha
At first, I feared the mountains, their height, the steepness and the cold weather. After a few lessons, my courage improved and I embraced the freedom of movement and speed that skiing offers. Suprisingly, I now find being on the steep slopes very relaxing, and I am focused and concentrated, and able to find my inner peace, even though my body releases plenty of adrenalin. I have the drive to ski as many different slopes as possible, and challenge myself and my abilty to look at the mountain and make a ski down strategy.
There is something magical about the mountains and respecting them makes me a better skier...the peaceful surroundings, the fresh and crisp air to breathe and the wind coming across my face are experiences that I can relive when back home by closing my eyes, with the feeling of adrenaline passing though my body. When the blue sky and warm and sunny spring weather are added, it is a real pleasure to be on the top of the mountains gliding down the slopes, feeling the freedom. I also enjoy the culture and the passion of many people - different ages, and nationalities that are united by the universal sport. I fell in love with the mountains and I hope that one day I will have the strength and power to climb one of the steepest slopes in Alaska and feel the powder under my skis when skiing down...however at this point I try to enjoy my black diamond achievements, and making the progress to the next level each time when I go for my ski trip.
And yes I wear a helmet as I hit the tree few years ago and I am blessed to be alive!
