Move More!
Movement is necessary in our lives. It is extremely important to include movement of some form every day in order to stay healthy, feel strong, fit and motivated. By including movement such as walking, running, bike riding, dance, yoga, gymnastics, aerobics, pilates, roller blade, stairs, tennis etc we add value to our life and to our body. Our bodies thrives on movement; just observe children, they can hardly stay still/sit in place, they constantly move - sit down and get up, run, jump etc, and aging should not put limits on how much we move. Of course it all depends on the nature of our lifestyle, work and physical abilities, but without excuses we can always find time and a way elevate our heart rate. For example, we can use stairs instead of the elevator, walk a few blocks before jumping into a taxi, bus or subway, ride a bike with our kids, and at work implement few minutes breaks for stretches, eg.. stand near your desk or in the bathroom and do few stretches, squats, small leg lifts in order to improve your circulation. When I worked as a broker, my role was to be on the phone and in the front of the screen focused on trades for 8 hours straight; even going to the bathroom was a fast visit, and a lunch break was out of question. My butt was sore from sitting down, my legs were swollen and my belly felt always full of air. The difference in my day was made by brisk walk from the subway to my home and my daily exercising routines, but my real rescue came from my mini butt workout. I called it mini butt lift, simply standing at my desk, talking on the phone with my clients and lifting my leg hundreds of times - small pulses and again wider movement, again small pulses, then standing butt squeezes - squeeze and release. It might look funny, but I managed to keep my blood flowing, as well as maintaining a tight butt and strong legs. It works, I promise we just have to make a small effort every day to get big results for life.
