The pleasure of gelato

Category: Diet

You don't have to travel to Italy to taste the authentic gelato. I got addicted to Italian style ice cream - galato - during my studies in Italy. The most delicious gelato was in Siena at the Nannini cafe. Smooth and flavourful coppa was enough to get me through every day in Italian style. It is a very well known Italian producer of dolci e gelati, traditional products of Siena.

Wherever I travel, I am in constant search for the top quality ice cream. When I arrived to New York I discovered two fresh made galato places in the West Village. Today, West Village became the Mecca of galaterias...but only two are worth the guilt - Cones and L'Arte del Gelato.

Both are my favourite places to grab a pint of gelato...their gelato is made daily, contains no additives, they use only fresh and natural ingredients, and both owners have real passion for their art of gelato making. Oscar from Cones, who is the owner and the perfectionist, he is incredibly creative. It is a great way to spend some time talking to him while tasting his new creations.

Over years I have been visiting them on regular basis, and there is no guilt to my lifetime pleasure of gelato. It is hard to resist not to sample once you are inside, and it is even harder to avoid the indulgance of full serving. I tasted every flavour of gelato and sorbeto both places make, and I came to conclusion that there is no looser as it all depends on individual preference. When comes to my taste I like to mix nutty flavours like pistachio or hazelnut with coffee, tiramisu, blueberry or mascapone.

Judge yourself which place and which flavour is best for you. I love both places and hope that they will keep coming up with new flavours.
